Refrigerant Comparison Calculator

Choosing a replacement refrigerant is a capacity AND efficiency decision: drop-in candidates run at different mass flows and pressures for the same duty, so compressor sizing and expansion devices change.

Compare any refrigerants at one operating point and the engine returns COP, volumetric capacity, discharge temperature and mass flow side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drop in R448A for R22?

R448A is a common R22 replacement but not a drop-in: capacity and TXV settings differ. Always verify superheat, discharge temperature, and oil compatibility; POE oil is required.

What is the difference between R448A and R454B?

R454B (used in new R410A-type equipment) is mildly flammable (A2L) with ~78% lower GWP than R410A. R448A is non-flammable A1, lower-pressure, aimed at retrofit duty. Both need verified compressor maps.

Why does discharge temperature matter in comparison?

High discharge temperatures degrade oil and stress valve plates. At high pressure ratios, some refrigerants (R22, R404A) run hotter than others for the same duty — the comparison shows it explicitly.
